ConsultingTools in Bahrain 

ConsultingTools recently contributed to the first ever Psychometric Testing Symposium in the Middle East at the invitation of the British Council and the Government of Bahrain.  

The event, hosted by the British Council, took place in The Gulf Hotel, Bahrain and was attended by delegates from around the region. Corporate and Government representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, UAE, and Bahrain itself, expressed interest in using tools across a range of business and personal development applications. 

Nigel Evans, our Senior Psychologist, was asked to present a paper and then join the panel of esteemed speakers to share his perspective on the subject of “Using psychometric tests to add value to business”. In addition to his acknowledged expertise in psychometrics, Nigel also drew upon his recent experience of training Facet5 with Emirates in Dubai. 

As in the rest of the world, companies in the Gulf have issues attracting and retaining staff. Psychometric tests have proved to be invaluable in search and retention efforts, although they are used relatively little in the region. The Bahrain Training Institute, The Bahrain Ministry of Labour and the British Council got together to help introduce the concepts and benefits of testing to business in the Gulf. 

The key objectives of the conference were to explore issues related to psychometric testing and focus on the following key aspects:  

• To make the selection and recruitment decision a modern and scientific process.
• To spread a culture of "fairness" in the recruitment process.
• To make the selection process measurable and easy to evaluate.
• To address people's educational and training needs.
• To provide decision makers with a scientific tool not based on personal judgment or subjectivity.
• To introduce participants and organisations to the different types of aptitude and psychometric tests available on the market.
• To outline benefits and weaknesses of using psychometric testing.
